SAFEGUARD SITKA’S FUTURE
Sitka’s economic future is at risk. Help us save it by voting NO on 1.
For Our Families. For Our Future.
Vote NO on Ballot Measure 1.
Cruise tourism keeps Sitka moving. It creates jobs, funds our schools, supports local services and strengthens our entire community. Ballot Measure 1 jeopardizes all of it. Let’s protect Sitka’s future and vote NO on this harmful measure.
Safeguard Sitka’s Future is a coalition of Sitkans — business owners, workers, parents and neighbors — who believe in balanced, community-first tourism. We’re here to share information, spark conversation and keep Sitka thriving for everyone.
WHO WE ARE

why vote no?
This measure forces an all-or-nothing decision at the ballot box. That’s not how we solve community challenges.
Sitkans deserve dialogue and flexibility to decide our future in a way that works for everyone, not just strict mandates.
Ballot Measure 1 is Bad for Sitka.
Strict passenger limits. A short season. Ballot Measure 1 could dangerously undercut one of Sitka’s only growing industries at a time we can’t afford it.
Economic HarM
In 2023, cruise tourism brought in $42 million in earnings and supported 15% of local jobs, according to Rain Coast Data. Cutting visitor numbers back to pre-pandemic levels puts livelihoods at risk, not just for tour operators, but for retail workers, food trucks, fishermen and small businesses all across town. In short, everyone will feel economic pain.
Community Impact
The services Sitkans love, like local parks, Blatchley Pool and public education, are paid for with city revenues. Cuts to visitor numbers mean lost city revenue from the 1% sales tax, forcing locals and city leadership to make tough choices about which programs to fund or what new taxes might be required to fill the gap.
Collaborative Management Brings Everyone to the Table.
Thanks to a Memorandum of Understanding between Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal and the City, cruise lines already limit daily passenger numbers and schedule quiet days. Harsh laws are not required when we're managing our visitor industry together.
Collaborative Management Brings Everyone to the Table
Sitka is investing in eco-friendly buses, better port facilities and expanded shore excursions to better serve the community.
Infrastructure Investment
Cruise tourism creates real opportunity. For young Sitkans, local entrepreneurs and families building a life here, this industry opens doors and allows them to stay here.
